Lady lolita

Hola! It's Lady Misery here with my newest post! This is one of the two new dresses Mum bought from The Gothic Shop, an online store which sells loads of gorgeous alternative gear. This is my lolita dress, complete with ribbons and pink. You probably can't see the detail properly, but there are tiny silver crowns and cobwebs all over it.

The shoes you see were bought in ASDA (shock horror) for my part as Tallulah in our school's production of Bugsy Malone. I'm wearing skin coloured tights underneath because my legs are currently a mess of insect bites and assorted scratches from God knows where.

The necklace you see is one of my all-time favourites. It is a little egg I got whilst collecting faberge eggs. I LOVED those things.

Anyway, enjoy your wednesday! Love Rachel xx

Horrible humidity

Hello mooks! Antonym here, doing a little fill in post to make up the numbers a bit :) The weather is absolutely boiling and I'm really not a summer person, so I have returned to my gothic roots in an attempt to convince the universe that it is indeed Halloween, so it will BLOODY COOL DOWN.

Now chickies, you may or may not have seen a photo of my mad French hair yet, but here it is in all it's (slightly blurry, a thousand apologies for my dreadful camera) glory. When I first had it cut and then dyed it, my dad came home from the pub, glared at me for an inordinate length of time and then remarked "Well, it may be more corporate but I prefer the pink, I don't like this". Bugger off, old man! I think it's brilliantly weird. For my interview I wore it sleek and straightened, but since then I've just been putting a bit of mousse in it and ruffling it up for a 'loveable street urchin' look. You've got to pick a pocket or two, boys... For special occasions I plan on attacking it with hairspray and then backcombing like mad, which will hopefully make me look like a Victorian lady who has fallen on hard times, gone insane and been carted off to an asylum where they have hacked off her lovely long locks to sell to wig makers, and left her with a bizarre bird's nest. Ahem. Anyway... Back to the outfit...

This is one of my favourite dresses, it's from boohoo and surprisingly comfortable in the summer. Even if it wasn't, I'd still wear it all year round, what can I say - I'm a sucker for black lace. The tights are just sheer black ones from Dorothy Perkins (laddered I'm afraid, hosiery despises me), and my shoes (which you probably can't see very well) are Primark's finest turquoise leopard print slip ons. I'm also wearing my silver ankh necklace, and a bit of eyeliner.

Where did you go in this glorious get up, I hear you ask? A Hungry Horse pub, for a cut-price curry and glass or two of cheap white wine. We're classy here in Berkshire. I ate far too much and felt bloated, then decided to record my discomfort. This is my 'if I eat another bite I am going to explode like Mr Creosote' face. Sexy. At least you can see a bit more of my dress here! Mmm, goffiks. Anyway chapettes and chaps, it's past lunch time so I'm going to go and mix myself up a gin and tonic and play with my new phone a little more (it's dreadfully high tech and gorgeous, and it has a Guitar Hero game on it! No lie! Absolutely bizarre, I love it).

In the words of Charlie Brooker, "That's the end of the show, now go away."

I'm actually on time for once!

Yay! So today my mum and step-dad went to cuba for two weeks, which means I get to look after their house, and Molly, our very very old lady dog. My mum treated me to a facial and to have my eyebrows waxed earlier by her beauty therapist, she did a bloody good job on my eyebrows. I leave them to grow wild because I'm scared I'll pull them all out!!! And on Saturday I'm booked in to get my hair cut and dyed at the hairdressers, which my mum paid for too, as 'payment' for minding the house/dog!

So, my outfit today is my bargain dress from New Look, it was £15 in the sale and I love it. It ties up at the back and with two bows, I've tried to take a picture but it's very hard to take a picture of your own back with a mobile phone. My tights are also from New Look, and my shoes are from Matalan. I stupidly forgot my ID so I'm off to try and get served in the shop for some cigarettes!

Hmph, the picture uploader has made my post all backwards... It's so hard to figure out how to get the pictures where you want them on this thing!

School's out! Huzzah!

What ho, all and sundry!

I thought I could post another entry even though it isn't my day. I hope you don't mind! Today was the last day of school. I'll probably be bored out of my mind by the end of August but right now, I'm enjoying my freedom!

I apologise for the crappy webcam-ness of the pics, my web camera is currently my only camera that actually works so bear with me, s'il vous plaĆ®t. Today I’m a photowhore because I’m bringing you four (!) pics!

Anyway, today's outfit. I'm wearing a pinstripe blazer from Dorothy Perkins, a black skirt (Annis has an identical skirt! We're skirt twins! Skirtmates!) and a frilly white shirt from H&M. The polka dot scarf is from Accessorize and I’m also wearing my pocket watch necklace I made about a year ago. The watch is a 19th century ladies’ pocket watch and I love it even though it doesn’t work anymore.

Here’s another photo of me. This is what happens if one goes to school too often. Madness! (I’ll refrain from screaming “This. Is. Spartaaaa!”)

I hope you’re all having a lovely Thursday (did you know that “Thursday” is actually “Thor’s day”, referring to the Norse god Thor?), my dears!

Pip pip!

So it's awfully late...

Sorry ladies and gents, or gent in the case of Dave! I missed out on my last scheduled post - in fact I might have missed out on two, when my next one is due, I'll post two!
So here's a fill in post to make up for the missed May post.

This is an outfit I threw on to go up to the shops just because it was such a lovely sunny day. The beautiful weather we've been hving is such an oddity in Scotland, but I'm loving it regardless. It's not much fun while I'm work with no AC, but it's nice when I finish my shift for the night and it's still warm outside.

Anyway, my dress is a sundress I bought out of my work for £2.30! It was originally £17.99 when it came in, and gradually dropped down in price till it went into sale for £3. I got it then with my discount and I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it. I've had to repair the design at the bust and both the straps, but it's still rather lovely ^^
My sandals were also bought from Internacionale and I had to buy them because it was getting too hot in the shop to wear my combat boots. These are much cooler, but don't actually have much about them by way of a shoe, so they get uncomfortable after three ten hour shifts in a row.

My bag was a present from my mum for when I was going to a New Year's dinner dance. It's from Topshop and it's one of only two things I actually own from there. I'm not much of a fan - can never find anything I'd actually manage to pull off in there. It's a nice bag, just big enough to fit my phone and purse.

So again, apologies for the lateness!

longest day

Mooksters, I am ecstatic for I don't have to revise any more! After weeks of panic-cramming I'm finally free to do as I please...which at the moment is sitting in a boiling computer lab from nine til five every day, listening to recordings of four people having a conversation and transcribing exactly what each individual is saying. Four people and four hours of conversation...sixteen hours' worth of conversation to transcribe, and it takes longer than you might think: I was working flat out all day today and managed to transcribe half an hour's worth of speech 'Long tings', as my friend Herb would put it. It has its perks, though: on Tuesday last week I gave a presentation to a load of academics and was rewarded with lunch at a noodle bar paid for by the university. I could have a worse job :)

Luckily I'm allowed to wear just about whatever I want to work [though boiling as it is I don't think I'll dare wear shortshorts into the office, much as I'd like to!], so today's outfit consists of:

* Polka-dotted skirt/culottes from Ark. I lusted after this for AGES but it was expensive, so in the end I bought it and refused to let myself wear it until I'd done my exams. It was a good incentive! It hangs in lovely folds and looks like a skirt, but...LOOK! IT HAS LEGS! [me AND the skulottes]. Oh myyyy.
* Grey sweater, which came from TK Maxx but which I believe is Tommy Hilfiger [no logos on it or anything though, luckily]. I regretted wearing this today as I was roasting.
*Black footless tights, pretty standard.
* Pink dolly shoes with black lace over the top, from New Look [I don't think these show in the pictures].
* Silver necklace made by some jeweller friends of my mother :)

I had a bad face moment in the first picture...don't you think my new one is quite an improvement? ;)

And now I am off to read my lovely book and listen to Soundgarden, which seems like a perfect way to spend a summer evening.

EYE HEART BALLZ.

Sorry this is slightly late, ladies. I have had the most hectic, amazing week ever. I went to two May Balls, on consecutive nights. They start at 9.00pm and end at 6.00am, and so I have effectively reversed my sleep cycle and now I am nocturnal.

This is my first dress. I am not showing you my face because it is gross. The dress is from the interwebs, from a shop called e-dressit, in China. It was so cheap, and is so beautiful. I am wearing a necklace with a little elephant on it, because the theme for the ball was Scheherezade. There were live camels and a snake charmer.
I just realised it looks like I have massive shoulders in this photo. I don't think I do in real life... Also, it was so cold, my posture sucks. Never mind. Anyway, it was a lovely night but not a patch on the second ball. Here is dress number two:
My face looked silly in this one too... But never fear, there will be a shot of my head, because I am very pleased with the way my hair turned out. I used rollers! My dress is from Debenhams, my feathery stole is from Monsoon kids...And the lace gloves are from Accessorize. You can't see my fascinator in that picture. Oh dear, I have to upload another one. What a shame...
I am vain... My bad is from Primark like a thousand years ago or something... I was channeling my mother's wedding outfit with the cleavage rose. Gosh my mother is classy. And so am I...

Aaaaanyway, sorry about the late and confuzzled post. I love you all, and I love looking at your clothes!!

Piano exams and other tales.

Good evening, ladies.

Here I am, once again, after a rather turbulent but successful day. As you already know, today was the day of my piano exam. I'm pleased to report that it went very well indeed. Exams are graded here - I got an A and the judges said that I'm a brilliant pianist. Hurrah! (I apologise for the awful webcam-ness of the pics, please forgive me.)

I'm wearing a Dorothy Perkins dress which happens to be one of my favourite dresses. It makes me happy and I was very worried about my exam so I put it on in the morning to cheer up. It worked! I wanted to keep my fingers warm, toasty and protected before the exam, that's why I'm wearing black lace gloves. Jewellery-wise, I'm slightly boring today because I'm not wearing any rings - they get in the way when I play the piano. The beaded necklace was a birthday present from my friends. I love wearing it because it's so versatile and goes with almost every outfit! I'm also wearing two black flowers in my hair, black like my dark beating heart, BWAHAHAHA. Yes.

As for my shoesies, they're lovely and old-fashioned. I've got two pairs because they're so cool and I want to wear them until I die!

Before I go, here's my victorious "I passed grade 7 piano exam!" face:

Since it is a sunday

Good afternoon all. I should really begin this post with an apology. I missed my last post because I was probably sleeping or revising- bad excuses, I know, since other ladies are capable of posting during exam season, I'm sorry.
Now to begin today's post, before one leaves to see her lover. In my typical fashion, I present to you:
  • Scarf, from my mummio's bunch of scarves
  • Guns N Roses tee
  • White studded belt
  • Teapot/Flamingo necklace
  • Purple skinnies, from H&M
The Guns N Roses tee I've had since I was about 12, but it was a men's size M from HMV, so didn't exactly fit. I only got around to customising it to fit me last summer, after which time it has recieved many a compliment. Enjoy, mes amis.

Holidays In The Sun

I hope I'm not treading on anyones toes by posting a few hours early. I have a fun filled day of babysitting tomorrow, so I wont be able to get to the netbook to upload things I'm afraid.

So, hello! It's the estranged Capulet here providing you with June based joy and wonder. Summer is a strange time where we have these expectations of what it's going to be like, and what we're going to do and instead (in my case) it ends up a dvd and sleep fest, with the occasional bout of responsibility. Or something. I have gotten through a shocking amount of Lost DVDs in the last couple of days. Haha.

So, my outfit:
(If you could possibly ignore my facial expression, the camera was at a particularly unflattering angle and for some reason it's impossible to crop on this blasted laptop)

*Top was found tucked away in the sale section of New Look last summer.
Oddly enough, that's it inside out. I had to cut all the labels off. It's a strange thing.
*My shorts are my beautiful nautical striped pair that I bought from Primark two weeks ago, only to have the buttons break off by a drunken idiot who thought pulling at peoples clothing was a clever way to get attention.

*My tights are also from Primark

Also I'm wearing a bunch of bracelests and my spiked metal cuff that I've had since I was about 13. I also got a little fed up recently and decided to put pink through my hair and stretch my ear, but you can see neither venture very well in these pictures. So that's that then :). A week tomorrow I'm going to see Green Day for the second time. I'm pretty jazzed about that. Have a few parties this week too. Hope you all enjoy your summer :).
Love always.

The day I risked my sanity for this blog (12/6/10)

Okay, so you're probably wondering about the title. If so, look no further than the posters on the wall in a few of these shots! I have not become Jonas Brother crazy overnight, so fear not. I took these pics in my sister's room as she has a lovely contraption known as a full size mirror, therefore it is much more convenient to take pictures!

Today, as you can see, I am wearing some color! (Or colour, depending on where you are from.)

I am wearing my No Doubt t-shirt that I got about this time last year at the concert! They were so brilliant, and I was actually listening to them today, forgetting I had the top on. I always feel like such an obsessed fan when I wear a band t-shirt then listen to them on that day!

Here are my amazing stripey fishnet tights! 2 for $5 at Wet Seal, I believe! I have some purple and black ones, too, but they're not stripey, more just like interwoven. And they ripped a bit. Gahh. I do hate that. I bought some stockings from Victoria's Secret last weekend and they already have those little black lines on them where the thread is bunched together!

Last of all, here is my expression next to a picture of Justin Bieber. This describes the whole picture taking experience, really :P

Ciao,
Immy x

My darlings! How are you? Good I hope. Well, I've been having a crap few days so I haven't got round to taking a photo of my outfit properly. Luckily I had the initiative to take some emergency photos just in case I felt too gross/sad/ill/lazy to take new ones. As you can see from the lack of pink in my hair these aren't very recent.

Here's my new-ish bag. Do you like? It was made by some local woman who sells bags and driftwood art. The black mini skirt is from Topshop, and you can't tell but it has cute poofy pockets on the front. The tights are from Blue Banana and I loooooove them because they are fishnet but only in a stip down the side. Looks rather snazzy.
Wonder woman top is second hand and the hair was a bad idea.

I've been asked to submit a photo for a style blog on Tumblr. Thing is it has to be a full body shot from head to toe and I don't have any of them and I don't exactly feel like asking someone to take photos of me. :/ Boohoo. Looks like I'll have to pass that up.
Well, toodle pip! xxxx

Hello world!

My dearest and most adoring fans!

I'm really really REALLY sorry if I'm stepping on anybody's toes here, and this is your day, but Candy told me a I could post a few days ago and as I'm so late on the mookwagon, I wasn't actually given a specific day, so sorry sorry sorry!

This is my outfit today! It's actually quite a lot different from what I usually wear, because I tend to have some sort of belt that cuts off my circulation around the middle, and I'm unsure if I like it or will wear it again, but the dress (which is actually a size 16 top I bought on ebay on a whim, fnarrfnaar) arrive on my doorstep in a little package and i got very excited! I do believe it cost 99p or something ridiculous. I'm actually really happy to be wearing the shirt. It's my favourite shirt, and it's so soft and lovely and vintage but haven't worn it for about a year because that's how long ago it was I wore trousers. I was dressed as a pirate, wow!

The spoon necklace I made myself, and I love it. No really, I adore it hugely. It's probably the favourite thing I own. Thing is, people don't seem to understand it. I get asked a lot on whether I use it to eat yoghurt. I don't even really like yoghurt. It's made from fermented cow. And it causes lots of dialogues like this-

IDIOT: Is that a spoon around your neck?
CHARLIE: No darling, it's fashion.
IDIOT backs away slowly. CHARLIE sinks to her knees in despair
CHARLIE: WHY CRUEL WORLD, WHY? WHY GOD HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME?
SARDINE enters, and taps CHARLIE on the shoulder with walking stick.
SARDINE:
This serves you right for wearing eating utensils around your neck to look as though you have a personality. raises top hat Good day mam'sel!
Exuent SARDINE.

50's Hood Look... Misery style ;)

Hey y'all! It's Lady Misery, and today I'm wearing my baby (leather jacet, now a size too big for me) a bright red camisole top, the basic blue jeans any self-respecting 50's hood would wear and... fluffy blue bed socks. With cats on. I forgot to grab a photo of them, but I think you can just about see them here.

The sunglasses you see here are last year's- I have new ones now in black. However, I was too lazy to retrieve them from my handbag so here are my beauties from last summer. They do not look very Goth. But then again, it is summer so my wardrobe is gonna be pretty limited.

This here on the right is my brand new 'The Lost Boys' poster. Keifer Sutherland, in his prime, hanging over my bed everynight. Drool. Okay, that sounds kinda creepy and Edward Cullenesque, but it's okay. I have Eric Draven on my opposite wall to keep me company :)

I hope you all have a fab summer! Love Rachel xx

Zu spaet...

Hey beauties! This is my delayed post from the 29th [?] of May. I couldn't post that day because I was holed up in a cottage in West Yorkshire for my future sister-in-law's hen weekend. I was hoping I might be able to post some nice pictures of my outfit on the night we went out in Leeds, but alas, there were no good photos at all. I will, however, provide you with one photo from the night, which I find hilarious because it emphasises exactly how giant I seem to be. Towering over everyone else...I think my knees come up to Jo's armpits, lol.

Everything's been a bit crazy because of the arrival of everyone's favourite time of year: the exam season. All but one of my housemates have finished now except me; I've got an Old English exam on Tuesday which I am dreading slightly because it is an absolute fucktonne of work. On the bright side, though, it's been so warm that I've been able to spend most of the day in the garden. Before that, my revision space looked like
this, and my room is still cluttered with myriad books and notepads and sheets of paper. Suave.

My outfit today is a little bizarre, because I got a package in the post yesterday from my mum which contained a skirt. Bearing in mind my mother is generally not very good at picking out clothes of my taste, I was apprehensive, but the skirt is really nice. The only problems I have with it are that it's really a little too long [more librarian than secretary], and that it's got a layer of aqua netting round the bottom which is more twelve-year-old goth than anything else. I think I'm going to modify it slightly when my exams are finished, but then I will wear it all the time.

Other than that, today's outfit is just a plain black tank top I got from Peacocks years ago [but is one of my favourite staple items of clothing], flowery ballet flats from New Look, and a little bottle necklace made by a friend of mine. It's been so warm today that I didn't really want to make much effort, plus it's not as though I'm going out with all the revision I'm supposed to be doing. Oh, wait, revision. That's what I'm supposed to be doing now. Til next time, Mooks...

I'm crap, I'm sorry.

Okay, so I've missed probably a few dates, but I'll make it up I promise. I have no interesting things to wear nice clothes to right now. But have some pictures of my slobbing it in my PJs with no make up and messy unwashed hair. Yeah, I'm sexy, right? My PJs are from Primark and my slippers are from Tesco I think!

Let's pretend it's May 23rd.

Hallo!

My darlings, I am so sorry for not having posted, I took pics and everything and thought I'd done it but I never did. Please forgive me! ):

I cut out my head in the first photo because I looked weird. However, I know that everybody is just DYING to see my face (note the sarcasm here), I'm posting yet another photo. Please focus on the jewellery, not my startled expression.

I'm wearing a charcoal dress I bought in Dorothy Perkins a few weeks ago on my Great Dress Raid which resulted in six new dresses. I like this dress because I think it's really pretty, the colour is nice and muted and I love the flower embroidery. On my feet you can see my wonderful black leather brogues - I adore them! I'm also wearing sheer tan stockings from H&M. It took me a long time to find "tan" stockings that don't look orange when I put them on. I suppose these stockings are so white-ish because H&M is originally a Swedish shop and everyone is pale in Sweden! Hurrah!

Let's move on to more interesting things. I'm wearing a black headband that goes back to my mother's teenage years. The necklace is from Accessorize, I bought it last summer at Gatwick Airport because I had to spend my last Pounds before going back to my silly Euro zone country. The bracelet is, I think, from Tunisia. I don't remember who gave it to me, but I like it because I'm pretentious and it makes people think I've been to Tunisia. :P

This will be all for today, I'm off to practise the piano like a madwoman. My exam's on the 15th and I am, in coarse terms, shitting bricks. Oh yes I am.

Toodles!

2nd June. Winter ahoy!

I am so happy Winter has finally begun! I didn't realise at the time, but I inadvertently celebrated by buying myself a new coat. I also bought a new dress the day before then from Tree of Life.
The coat is a black cotton coat for every day wear and the dress underneath is from Tree of Life and is tie dyed and awesome.
